Are You Eligible for the CDBS? If So, What Does This Mean for Your Family?

Good dental health is so important for children. The oral habits they form during these early years can help shape their dental health for life, and this is why the Australian Government introduced the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Families eligible for this scheme will usually receive a letter from Medicare and include those receiving Family Tax Benefit A or another social security payment.

The scheme is designed to help children who would otherwise struggle to access regular preventive dental care and routine treatments and means they can visit our practice to receive high-quality, gentle dental care. Our entire dental team love seeing children and will ensure your child feels relaxed and comfortable and hopefully enjoys their visit.

CDBS provides eligible children with up to $1,013 of dental care benefits over two years. The scheme covers the cost of essential dental care for children aged between two and seventeen and covers the treatments they need to keep their teeth and gums strong and healthy and free from disease, including:

  • Regular dental checkups and cleans
  • Fillings
  • Tooth extractions
  • Root canal treatment
  • X-rays
  • Fissure sealants

All treatments are bulk billed, so there are no out of pocket expenses. However, the scheme doesn’t cover non-essential dental care such as orthodontics or cosmetic dentistry.
