Beef and tomato Ragu

Beef and tomato Ragu is a delicious and hearty Italian sauce that’s perfect for pasta or polenta. Here’s a recipe to make it:


  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish


  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, around 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the beef mince to the pot and cook, stirring frequently, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, oregano, salt, and pepper to the pot and stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for around 30 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
  6. Season with additional salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve hot over cooked pasta or polenta, garnished with fresh basil leaves. Enjoy!
