Top Tips for Healthy Teeth This Holiday Season

It is time to celebrate, and many of us will overindulge in sweet treats. Follow our easy tips to ensure your smile remains healthy and beautiful this holiday season.

Enjoy Festive Foods at Mealtimes

Instead of snacking on festive goodies, include them as part of your main meal, and you’ll do less damage to your teeth. We produce more saliva during main meals, helping to wash away excess sugars and acids more effectively.

Don’t Go Overboard with Alcoholic Drinks

Raise a toast to the festive season but try not to drink excessively. It is thought excess alcohol consumption increases the risk of oral cancer, and especially if you smoke. Alcohol dehydrates oral tissues, so carcinogens can permeate these tissues more easily. Also, a drier mouth increases the risk of gum disease, a leading cause of tooth loss.

Keep Up with Your Regular Oral Care Routine

When you come home tired from the festivities, it’s tempting to fall into bed without brushing and flossing. One night might not make a terrific difference, but if you do it too frequently, it’ll affect your oral health. Ideally, aim to brush two or three times daily and floss once-a-day. It only takes a few minutes, and it will freshen your breath too!
